Head Girls Golf Coach Nicholas Derado

Girls golf Coach Nicholas Derado brings 3 decades of experience as an educator and high school golf coach to his position. Coach Derado was named Head Coach in the summer of 2015. He was the Head Girls Golf Coach at LC from 2002 through 2009. He also served as the assistant boys coach for four years.

During his tenure as Head Golf Coach for the Lady Bears, his teams advanced to the regional twice. Five times when the team did not advanced out of the sectional, at least one golfer advanced as an individual.

Prior to coaching golf at LC, Coach Derado coached golf at Clements High School in Sugar Land, Texas. His teams were District Champions 3 out of the 4 years. They placed second in what was considered the toughest Regional in the State of Texas in 2 out of the 4 years. His squads also recorded 3rd and 6th place finishes at the state meet. In addition to the team success, Coach had individuals place second and third at the state meet. They qualified 2 girls in one year for regionals and 3 individuals the other years. Two of Sugar Land’s golfers were named All-Americans and several received either athletic or academic scholarships to pursue golf at the collegiate level. His squads recorded top 5 finish in County twice with the LC girls.

While at Clements he was the head coach of the school’s Academic Decathlon Team for 8 years. In the Acadmeic Decathlon, Clements won the Regional competition twice earning the team the right to compete at the state competition. Clements also, qualified for the state competition the other 6 years. The team never finished less than 10th (out of 40 teams).

Coach teaches US History Interdisciplinary, Govt/Econ Interdisciplinary, Government, Economics, and Psychology in the LC Social Studies Department. He won Teacher of the Year at Clements High School in 1995, was selected as a Top 30 Educator 5 times, an Avid Honored Educator 3 times; and has been named Honorable mention National Academic Decathlon Coach.

Nicholas lettered in Golf in High School 4 times while attending Lake Station Senior High School. At the time of his high school graduation, he was recognized as the best golfer in school history.

He loves to read books written by John Grisham, Vince Flynn, David Baldacci, John Feinstein, and Brad Meltzer. He also enjoys any production created by Aaron Sorkin. He enjoys most sports and spending time with his family. He and his wife Marci have three children: Cassie, Nicholas, and Rosa.
